Now that Casey + Alex's big day has been published in print and online by White Magazine, we are thrilled to be able to share more details with you. There was nothing conventional about this wedding, which is what happens when two crazy-in-love creatives get together to throw the biggest party of their lives...all on a few months' notice.
In March we first heard from mother of the groom, Karen, the newly minted host of the whole affair. With the L.A.-based couple having decided to switch from a Wisconsin venue to Karen's suburban backyard only months before the big day in July, everything had to come together on a tight timeline! We immediately got to work planning: updating the budget, putting together catering from a food truck and Alex's favorite pizza joint, locating the best florist for the job, securing rentals (many of our own super-fun vintage pieces), considering weather backup plans, figuring out lighting, and doing all the other things that come along with logistical planning for a backyard event. Thankfully, the couple's photographer Jordan Voth and their DJ Ramsey of Milwaukee Airwaves were already on board for the location change.
Adding to the fun, Casey is the creative goddess behind Officially Quigley and she had a fierce vision for transforming the yard. She found support from colleagues Urban Outfitters and Alex's company Absolut Elyx, which provided a stylish and elevated bar service. Her sister Carissa, who owns letterpress print People I've Loved, nailed the illustration. Casey found a nearby farm for portraits and we helped to make sure those would go smoothly. We then enlisted a photo booth trailer, macrame stylist, tarot reader and more to elevate this event from traditional wedding to full-on boho bash.
Being the obsessive planners we are, we made sure every little detail was covered. Our heads (and checklists) were abuzz with logistics: rain backup plan, food service and staffing details, prep locations for the couple, parking direction and valet service for a residential neighborhood, signage to direct guests, luxury restroom trailers, electric supply, every little rental and piece of equipment, timing for all vendors to arrive and break down, ice delivery, waste disposal, and the list goes on. Thankfully we have the outdoor event experience to leave every stone unturned!
Planning and providing rentals for a wedding like this is a demanding task and it's a challenge that we thoroughly enjoy. On the big day, there was no better reward than the joy on the faces of everyone present. The oohs and ahhs as guests entered the yard, the heartfelt speeches, the wild dance party--it was a true dream day! Seeing the beauty of our rugs, tables, lounge furniture and tabletop items with the amazing floral decor was the icing on the cake...and the actual cake from Vanille Patisserie was delicious too!
Eternal thanks go to Casey and Alex for choosing us to support them in the final months before their nuptials. They could have chosen any planner or rental company and decided to put their trust in us, which is an enormous honor. We are proud to have done our hardest work for them and to have helped their creative vision come to life. Now, after seeing this full photo set published and being lucky enough to keep in touch with these wonderful people as they keep laying the groundwork for their life together, we are excited to relive the fun of this amazing day! Hopefully you will enjoy these images as much as we enjoyed being part of them.

Before hiring Kate, I am not going to lie... I wondered why any sane person would ever plan a big wedding. Six months away from our big day, my finance and I decided to change our wedding venue and I was in a state of panic that was paralyzing. We found Kate and quickly brought her on board to help with a partial planning package.
Gradually that panic I had felt turned from a numbing fear, to a giddy excitement... and by the week of my wedding, everything was SO organized that my finance and I had literally NOTHING to do. Kate was so on top of things that we got to take the week of the wedding to just relax and be excited. Everything was handled. I kept being like- shouldn't we be stressed right now? But no, it was bliss. The wedding itself was a perfectly choreographed dream sequence. There are no words to describe the sense of comfort we felt on the day of the wedding knowing Kate was directing the show. Perfection sounds cliche, but she was nothing short of everything you could ever ask for in a planner. Professional, organized, punctual, and precise. She was calming and commanding and brought a energy to the space that screamed "I GOT THIS." I didn't realize that our honeymoon would be spent entirely re-living the day of the wedding over and over again. We rode that high and still have not come down. It's like there is "real life," and then there is the wedding week in a whole different category of reality. You just don't know how magical it will be until you experience it.
Kate- you brought the magic. You made it happen. You are a unicorn-riding princess goddess divine who sprinkles love-dust on all those you encounter. I AM SO GLAD WE FOUND YOU. You dream maker you! I can't wait to get to re-live the memories of our wedding- you so carefully crafted- over and over forever. Now, I GET why people have big weddings. Because once you live it, you tell everyone you know how it was "the best day of your life." And it was.
INFINITE THANK YOUS to Kate and Chicago Vintage Weddings.
