MEET OUR TEAM
Kate founded Chicago Vintage Weddings in 2012 as a way to channel her love of design and her extensive hospitality background into something that would bring joy to others. As a former concierge manager and catering associate, as well as a lifelong thrifter and decorator, the idea to start a wedding planning and vintage rental company (the first of its kind!) came naturally. Having previously intended to go to veterinary school---earning degrees in Biological Sciences and Gender Studies before discovering her passion for weddings---she maintains a connection to those fields by supporting human rights and animal welfare organizations. Both a big picture thinker and obsessively detail-oriented, she loves working with clients to figure out their needs and realize the vision for their events from start to finish. She thinks even the most minor details are exciting and loves figuring out event logistics. Clients and wedding guests consistently praise her organization, taste level, communication and ability to take charge of any situation. Kate eats, sleeps and breathes weddings; she feels lucky to be able do what she loves for a living and she treasures the lasting relationships she builds with CVW couples.
Loves: Her rescue dogs Ruthie and Hoagie, book stores, interior design, scuba diving, champagne, France, art history, chocolate and peanut butter everything, chinoiserie, meeting every animal, discovering new music, traveling off the beaten path, volunteering, summer in Chicago
Jennifer Joy Moreland
Rental and Operations Manager
Jennifer is what makes Chicago Vintage Weddings rentals tick. Having previously run a wedding photography business for 15 years, she has a remarkable eye for details and design, and she uses it to help clients select the best pieces for each event. Her extensive experience in the wedding industry helps her navigate logistics and communicate proactively to ensure a smooth experience leading up to and on the big day. Prior to joining the team, Jennifer worked with Chicago Vintage Weddings not only as a photographer but as a dog rescuer; her passionate work in animal welfare not only saved countless animals but helped to foster lasting partnerships between CVW and local animal rescue nonprofits. She was instrumental in the development and design of a new dog adoption center, and her passion for design is something that she now brings to the table for our clients.
Loves: Spending time with her three sons, fostering animals, doing DIY design projects at home, spoiling her rescue dogs Aggie and Eugene and rescue cat Dolly, gardening, connecting with friends
Originally from New England, Jen has been working in Chicago events for the past 14 years. While in college she was a catering server, which led her to discover her passion for weddings. Her hospitality background includes a decade in venue and on-site catering services management. She originally collaborated with Chicago Vintage Weddings in that role for over five years before she was convinced to join the planning team.
Jen's favorite part of a wedding day is the moments that lead up to the couple meeting at the altar to share their vows. The excitement and anticipation gets her every time! Jen loves getting into the details of the movement and flow of the day, taking into consideration every contingency so that the day can be as smooth as possible for her couples. When the couple sees their reception space for the first time, it makes her day.
Loves: Reading and collecting cookbooks, learning new craft skills, chasing after her son, gin cocktails, bold and bright colors, trying new dessert recipes, New England in the fall, forecasting design trends
Aly is an experienced Chicago events veteran, having produced over 1,000 weddings during her 15 year career. She is a highly organized, detail-oriented planner whose weddings have been featured in some of the best-known U.S. publications. Prior to joining Chicago Vintage Weddings, Aly helped to open and develop all operating systems for a venue with in-house catering, and she brings that logistical expertise to her role as a planner for our couples. Her favorite part of a wedding day is seeing the couple recess after their ceremony.
Loves: Spending time with her husband and children, crafting on Circuit, obsessing over paper goods and gift wrap, bike riding, winery tours, jeeping in the Colorado Rockies, planning elaborate theme parties
Deborah laughed through her own wedding day and hopes to bring that same joy and ease to every couple preparing for their big day. She applies her project management skills in residential, retail, restaurant and entertainment venue design to each event she coordinates. Her whimsical concept illustrations led to her love of children's literature and role as a regional steward within a global kidlit professional organization, where she continues managing projects and generating opportunities for her colleagues. Throughout her career, she has established themes in event planning, writing, illustrating and designing. A natural storyteller, Deborah is ready to help our couples craft their first chapter: a wedding day that tells family and friends exactly who they are.
Loves: Illustrating, gardening, kidlit, Italian home cooking, watercolor rendering, cozy mysteries, documentaries about the creative process, vintage fashion, diners, Portugese Water Dogs, any dogs, swimming, paddle-boarding
Veasna is a wedding wizard, having spent 10 years in the Chicago special events industry. A Public Relations and Hospitality Leadership major at DePaul, she applies that organizational and leadership knowledge to each event she manages. Veasna's calm, collected presence is exactly what a couple needs on their wedding day, and she rallies vendor teams to deliver flawless results. Veasna's favorite part of a wedding is when the couple gets a chance to relax and let loose once the formalities have wrapped up!
Loves: Learning how to cook Vietnamese cuisine, reading mystery and thriller novels, finding new restaurants for date night, weight lifting, Selling Sunset, and going to concerts
Kim is a couple's dream come true. She is a triple threat, having worked in interior design, hospitality and event management. Originally an interior designer, she brings her sense of style to each event and ensures that every project is managed seamlessly at every level. Organization and communication are her strong suits, and she loves the opportunity to connect with couples and vendors as the big day approaches. On wedding days, she can be found triple checking every detail and making sure that everyone in the wedding party and family know exactly what to do.
Loves: Spending time with her daughter, all things design, a good cup of coffee, traveling, seeing family and friends, relaxing with a new book
